Das Ticken der Sanduhr

Matthias Reichelt · Opening speech for the group exhibition „next level” · 26 May 2018

For his installation „Das Ticken der Sanduhr“ (The Ticking of the Hourglass) – art in architecture in the truest sense – Hartmut Sy extended the conical roof of the right-hand domed building down to the ground with galvanised wire. It is the imagination of a filled hourglass, whose upper, empty half must remain invisible because of the transparent glass. Instead of stretching the form-giving wires directly, Sy shaped small elements by hand, each with an eyelet at both ends, which, hung one into the next, join to form axes running on a slant. A clear sign of the energy invested in the installation in the form of hours of work and time lived.
